A match looks wrong

The app suggests possible species matches; a suggestion is not a confirmed identification. It can be wrong, and it is more likely to be wrong on a blurred photo, an unusual angle, or a species outside the guide it ships with. Photograph the subject filling more of the frame, in even light, and compare the clues shown for each candidate before accepting one.

The species I photographed is not in the guide

Some model suggestions have no written guide entry. A suggestion may be wrong, including when the photo shows another subject. Compare visible features and leave the observation unidentified when the evidence does not fit.

Access and purchases

The app includes 3 days of full access. After that a single one-time purchase unlocks it permanently; there is no subscription. If you have purchased and the app does not recognise it, use Restore Purchases on the paywall screen. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, not by the developer. On Android, a valid access code also grants all features free of charge with no time limit. This code option is specific to Android.

Privacy

See the privacy policy. Photo matching does not upload your photo to the developer. Device backups and files you choose to export or share are handled separately, as explained in the policy.

Fish Discover — Privacy Policy

The short version

Fish Discover has no account, no sign-in, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and no developer server. Identification runs entirely on this device using a model bundled inside the app. Photo matching does not upload your photos to the developer. Device backups and files you choose to export or share are handled separately. If you contact support, the developer receives the information you choose to send.

What the app stores, and where

Photos you choose or capture, the species matches shown for them, anything you save to your observation log, and your settings are stored on your device. The app does not back them up to a developer server. Device backups or transfers may retain app data according to your operating-system settings. Exported or shared copies remain wherever you save or send them. Apple devices also keep trial and purchase-access records in the Keychain; those records may remain after deleting the app. Deleting the app does not necessarily remove backups, exports, or Keychain records.

Camera and photo library

Camera access is used for one purpose: to let you photograph fish so the app can suggest a match. Photo library access is used only to let you pick an existing photo for the same purpose. The app does not scan, index, or upload your photo library.

Network access — stated precisely

Photo matching runs on the device without sending your photo to the developer. Apple StoreKit and Google Play services may use the network to load product information, process purchases, restore access, or deliver app assets. Product information can load before you choose to buy or restore. Opening policy or support links, sending support email, and sharing files use the services you choose.

Purchases

Fish Discover is free to download with 3 days of full access. Starting that access window happens locally on your device and does not create a subscription or a charge. After the 3 days, a single optional one-time purchase unlocks the app permanently — there is no subscription and nothing auto-renews. That purchase or restore is handled entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play through their own in-app purchase systems. The app does not receive your payment-card details from the store. Local purchase and trial records help manage access. On Android, a valid access code also grants all features free of charge with no time limit; the app stores whether that code-based access is active on the device. This code option is specific to Android.

Children

The app does not send photos or observation records to a developer server and does not include advertising or analytics. Information you choose to send to support is handled to respond to your request.

What this app is for

Fish Discover is an identification aid for learning. Its matches can be wrong. It is not a fishing-regulation, edibility, or safety guide. Size limits, seasons, protected species and catch rules vary by jurisdiction and change over time — check your local authority. Do not use this app to decide whether a fish is safe to eat.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it.
